How can I fix the fact that I ruined my anniversary present?

My husband and I have a 15-year anniversary coming up this summer. We had planned for some time to upgrade my ring as a gift. I went and looked around and left hints to what I wanted. He came to me a week ago and asked me to help since it was such an expensive purchase. I went along, and we finalized the ring (one I had already picked out on my own). He was then going to pick it up and give it to me. He planned a big surprise to give it to me, and in a fight over the weekend, he blew up and just gave it to me because I was pestering him about it. I was confused, thinking the surprise was gone after he got me involved. He was hurt, and now I feel like the whole thing is ruined, and the ring has no sentimental value. How do we recover from this?
