Help me please! Do I really need a nesting box?

My giant lop has just given birth to 7 beautiful healthy babies, but I'm concerned. My rabbit has no sleeping area and she has built a nest of hay and fur near the back of the hutch. Should I get a nesting box or will it be ok and I have noticed that the babies, which are 1 day old, are crawling out of the nest and trying to feed off their mother and they can't get back. So what I did was rub some of her scent onto my hands and then lifted them back into their nest. Also, I am wondering weather I can handle them slightly to check they health. Thanks.
