What does coldness do to your instruments?
Hello! Both Kevin and Bill have nailed it in regards to the effect cold will have on the tuning of your stringed instruments. If you check tuning frequently through the first part of your performance, you should be fine! My biggest concern would be with the finishes on the guitar and drum surfaces. Wood and paint does not expand or contract at the same rate; consequently, too abrupt changes in temperature can cause lacquer to crack from stress. Make sure to allow the instruments to acclimate to the outside temperature by leaving them in their cases until time to play. After completing your performance, replace each instrument in their respective cases, and allow them to slowly return to room temperature (from the venue to car, car to home, and remain inside case for several hours). Best wishes for a successful gig! Best regards, Dana
